Connect Contextli to Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code
On this page
Add <https://mcp.contextli.com/mcp> as an MCP server in Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code, then sign in with your Contextli email and 6-digit code. Your coding assistant can then search and read your Contextli notes, for example the bug reports or ideas you dictated.
Claude Code
- Run this in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http contextli <https://mcp.contextli.com/mcp>
- Open Claude Code and type
/mcp. - Choose contextli and sign in with your Contextli email and the 6-digit code.
Cursor
- Open Cursor Settings, then Tools & Integrations (just Tools on the Free plan), and click New MCP Server.
- In the
mcp.jsonthat opens, add an entry under"mcpServers"namedcontextliwith its"url"set to the MCP URL. No client ID or secret is needed:
json
{
"mcpServers": {
"contextli": { "url": "https://mcp.contextli.com/mcp" }
}
}
- Save. Cursor connects and shows a Needs login prompt next to the server.
- Click Needs login and finish the browser sign-in with your Contextli email and 6-digit code.
VS Code (Copilot agent mode)
- Make sure VS Code is version 1.102 or newer with the GitHub Copilot extension signed in.
- Open the Command Palette and run MCP: Add Server, choose HTTP, then paste
<https://mcp.contextli.com/mcp>. - Name it
contextli, pick Global or Workspace, and confirm the trust prompt. - Complete the browser sign-in with your Contextli email and 6-digit code, then enable Contextli in the Agent mode Tools picker.
You can also find these steps in the desktop app: sidebar Pull notes in Claude > AI Integrations > Connect on the tool you use.
What you can ask
- “Find my notes about the checkout bug from this week and summarise them.”
- “Review my product ideas from the last 7 days and turn them into a triage list.”
- “Save this plan as a note and label it launch.”
The connector can read and search notes, list contexts and labels, save a new note and add labels. It never edits a note’s text or deletes anything.
Troubleshooting
- Sign-in window does not open: remove the server and add it again, then retry the sign-in.
- No notes found: make sure you signed in with the same email you use in the Contextli app.
